Cannabis Sativa L. or more commonly known as hemp is mostly associated with the CBD industry. However, its application goes beyond supplements and food. Traditionally, hemp has been used as raw material for the automobile and building industry (Henry Ford famously used the crop for his earlier prototypes). But one of the most common usages of hemp is as raw material for rope, canvas and clothing. Its popularity waned during the second World War due to high-labour cost and anti-narcotic campaigning and it was eventually overshadowed by cotton and synthetic fibres.
But interest in the versatile plant has been ramping up over the years with scientists working on more efficient methods to harvest and mass produce hemp related products. You can read more on it in a review of a 2004 symposium in Italy here.
