A Comprehensive Review Of Seaweed’s Many Applications

Seaweed has been a staple of human culture for thousands of years. Not only is it an important source of nutrients, rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber, it also has multiple medicinal applications. It has been suggested that seaweed can be used to treat tuberculosis, arthritis, colds and influenza.

Seaweed’s usage extends beyond diet though. Agar, a compound extracted from seaweed, is used as a solidifying agent or emulsifier in the production of photographic film, paint, batteries and glue. Some scientists are even exploring its use as a renewable energy source and organic manure.

Recorded research on the potential of these organic plants only date back to 70 years and no one has ever compiled an extensive review of all available data. Until now.
